Knox Glass Plant Silo Demolition

Francis J. Palo, Inc. was awarded this project on May 1, 1998 through private industry to complete the following work in the Knox Industrial Park, Clarion County, PA. The scope of work included removal of twelve existing concrete columns, three existing concrete silos, floor slabs and beams. The debris was used in the construction of a ramp area.

The demolition method was successfully tested on the first two concrete silos.

Removing the outside silos exposed the balance of the smaller interior units.
Removal of the steel reinforcement keeps the tangle manageable.

With only two silos to go, the removal gets more intense with high voltage power supply
lines overhead. In all 12 concrete silos and 3 steel tanks were removed without incident,
and the substructure was preserved, all according to the planned demolition procedures.
